Haynes - Nov. 2, 1962 Benzie County Clerk ----------------------------------------- Benzie Banner; 1974 Dec. 12,- "Fund started for family hit by tragedy" ( Pg. 13) Friends of Mrs. Carol Johnson, the Benzonia mother of five who was critically injured in a recent auto accident, have announced the creation of a special fund to help the Johnson family with medical cost and other expenses. The fund is being administered by the Central State Bank in Beulah, and all contributions should be sent to the bank's vice president, Michael D. Codden. Mrs. Johnson was hurt the day before Thanksgiving when her car was involved in a head-on collison as she returned from a trip downstate. She has been in a coma ever since. Mrs. Johnson and her 11-year old son Joe had driven south to pick up the oldest daughter Charla, who is a student at Grand Valley College, The accident occured north of Muskegon as mother , daughter and son were returning to Benzie county. Joe escaped the accident with relatively minor injuries. Mrs. Johnson reportedly sustained extensive head and internal injuries. She has not regained conscioousness since being hospitalized in Muskegon following the accident. The Johnson family lives at 2783 Benzie Highway.
