JONES, 81, of Beulah, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at Birchwood Nursing Center, Traverse City, surrounded by his family. Arrangements are being handled by the Jowett Family Funeral Homes, Benzonia, where beautiful ceremonies celebrate life. Published in the Record-Eagle on 1/14/2008. Jones, James F. BEULAH — James F. Jones, 81, of Beulah, passed away peacefully Jan. 12, 2008, with his family by his side. He was born Sept. 21, 1926, in Benzonia, just 15 minutes before his beloved wife, Ardith. James graduated from Benzonia High in 1944. In 1945 he enlisted in the United States Army, proudly serving in the Asiatic- Pacific Theater during World War II and Occupational Forces in Korea. In 1947 he began his career with the Ann Arbor Railroad as an agent trainee in Beulah and married Ardith Heinze. The couple raised a family and resided in Cadillac for nearly 30 years, where he was a member of the Cadillac Rotary Club, Boy Scout troop leader and baseball coach. In 1986 Jim retired from the Ann Arbor Railroad as Director of Marketing. Jim and Ardith returned to live in Benzonia in 1996. Always an avid outdoors man, Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing and fur trapping. An accomplished wood carver and carpenter, Jim carved beautiful working and decorative duck decoys and canoe paddles. He constructed water skis, made his entire family snow shoes, tied his own fishing flies, made sausage, baked bread and bottled his own wine. He enjoyed bridge as well as athletic and musical competition, traveling endless miles to support his children and grandchildren. A highlight of Jim's day was watching the Benzie Central cross country team run through his property. He took great pride in his family and home and will be dearly missed. Jim is survived by his wife, Ardith; children, Derryl (Christine) of Thompsonville, Debrah (Bob) Hoeltzel of Twin Lake, Douglas (Christine) of Elk Ridge, Utah, and Diane (Eric) Fernelius of Beulah; brothers, Marion and Richard Jones; grandchildren, Michael and William Jones, Daniel, Damon and David Hoeltzel, Patrick and Sarah Jones, and Elysabeth Fernelius; and great- grandchildren, Liam and Mia Jones. James was preceded in death by his parents, William and Helen Jones; and great- grandson, Joseph Daniel Jones. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at the First Congregational Church in Benzonia, with Reverend Ed Duncan officiating. The family will be receiving visitors at 10 a.m. until the time of the service. A military service under the auspices of Frankfort Post No. 221 will follow the service. Burial will be in the Benzonia Township Cemetery. The family expresses a special thank you to all of the staff at the Birchwood Tender Care.
