RICHARD H. KERBY, 81, of Traverse City, formerly of Benzie County, passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 8, 2006, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City after an extended illness. Memorial services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah, with Reverend Barbara Hoig officiating. A full obituary will be in the Sunday edition of the Record Eagle. The Bennett-Barz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Published in the Record-Eagle on 9/9/2006. -------------------------------------- Kerby, Richard H. TRAVERSE CITY — Richard H. Kerby, 81, of Traverse City, formerly of Benzie County, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 8, 2006, at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City after an extended illness. He was born March 14, 1925, in Frankfort, the son of Mearl and Amanda (Schroeder) Kerby. Richard was a veteran of World War II, serving three and a half years in the U.S. Navy. He was a former member of the VFW, American Legion and the F.O.E. Richard held a Journeyman License in plumbing and heating and retired from Wares & Sons Plumbing and Heating in 1986. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed mushrooming and picnicking. He also enjoyed refinishing furniture. Above all, his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and friends. On May 26, 1946, in Beulah, Richard married Laura B. Priest, who survives him. He is also survived by five sons, John (Jan) Kerby of Groton, Conn., Tim (Kathy) Kerby of Grawn, Wade (Erica) Kerby of Lake Ann, Pat (Shelly) Kerby of Interlochen, and Mike (Melissa) Kerby of Mesick; four daughters, Connie (Ken) Ferguson of Traverse City, Chris (Tom) Blonshine of Grawn, Bonny (John) Stinebaugh of Interlochen, and Laurie (Jim) McGrath of Kinross; 30 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one brother, Dan (Marsha) Kerby of Benzonia; four sisters, Colleen Pettingill of Honor, Betty Ostlund of Traverse City, Helen (Ford) Lentz of Fremont, and Virginia (LaVerne) Parker of Constantine; and numerous nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Jalynn Rose Kerby; five brothers, Paul, Mearl, Robert, John and Clifford Kerby; and three sisters, Ruth Shettick, Lois Kerby and in infancy, Rose Kerby. Memorial services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 12, at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah, with Reverend Barbara Hoig officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice or the Father Fred Foundation. The Bennett-Barz Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
