"Mike" Knapik - Died May 20, 2005 BENZONIA - Mike Knapik, 85, died Friday, May 20, 2005, at his home. He was born Aug. 13, 1919, in Chicago, the son of Jacob and Anna (Janos) Knapik. Mike married Josephine on April 19, 1946; and she preceded him in death Nov. 22, 2000. He served in the United States Army during World War II, serving in the Middle Eastern Theatre. He was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church, the V.F.W and the P.R.A. In 1981, Mike retired from Jenks Machine Shop. He was an avid fisherman and loved to grow a garden and raise honey bees. Surviving are special friends, David and Gert Lorenc and family; his favorite nephew, Richard (Lorraine) Knapik of Alabama; two brothers; and several other nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial Mass will be celebrated today, May 25, 2005, at 11 a.m., at St. Ann Catholic Church, with Father Ray Cotter officiating. Interment will be in the Benzonia Township Cemetery. Memorials contributions may be directed to the Michigan Heart Association.
