He was born Sept. 25, 1940, in Sioux Falls, S. D., to A. Boyd Knox and Beverly Blanche Barnhart Knox. He married Donna Ray (Link) Knox on Feb. 11, 1963, in Anaheim, Calif. Alexander grew up in Salem, S. D., and graduated from Salem High School in 1958. He graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1966, then from the University of Wisconsin Graduate School of banking. He served in the United States Army for three years and was discharged in 1964. Alex was a banker for 18 years and served as president of McCook County National Bank. He and his wife, Donna, owned the Accounting & Financial Services in Beulah until his retirement in June of 2005. He was active throughout his life in his community, teaching real estate finance at Antelope Valley College. He was president of Rotary in Placentia, Calif., was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and various Chamber of Commerce Boards, was a Boy Scouts Finance Chair and belonged to various other community organizations. In Beulah, he was Benzie County Commissioner for 11 years and state vice president of the Independent Accountant Association of Michigan. He belonged to the Masonic Lodge, the Order of Eastern Star in Traverse City and the Beulah Economic Development Boards, Crystal Lake Kiwanis treasurer, various other community boards and was a Shriner. He was a member of The First Congregational Church UUC Benzonia. Surviving family includes his loving wife of 42 years, Donna Ray; sons, Alexander (LynnZee) Boyd VII of LaCrosse, Wis., Ray Walter of Beulah; daughter, Ann Marie (Mike) Gilmour of Canton; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; sisters, Kay (Chuck) Gough of Big Fork, Mont., Gina Holzman of Pasadena, Calif.; brother, David (Patty) Knox of Houston; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will take place today, Dec. 21, 2005, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Benzonia Chapel of McElduff-Jowett Funeral Home, 7223 South Street, Benzonia. Funeral services will be Thursday, Dec. 22, at 2 p.m., at the First Congregational Church UUC, 900 Barber St., Benzonia, MI, with the Rev. Steve Davidson officiating. Interment will be in the Benzonia Township Cemetery. Memorial donations are being accepted for the Alex B. Knox Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Ann Marie Gilmour, 7167 Oakleaf Court, Canton, MI or to the First Congregational Church.
