LaRue 1935 - 2005 TRAVERSE CITY - Kay LaRue, a former Benzie County resident, passed away Saturday, May 7, 2005, from complications following angioplasty. She had just celebrated her 70th birthday. A former figure skater, Kay enjoyed making dolls and painting, and was an avid reader. She loved spending time with her large family and many dear friends. Kay was born May 1, 1935, to Walter and Lila (Mersman) Krause, in Mt. Clemens. Kay was a office manager for several years at Frankfort Plumbing and Heating, and retired in 1999. She is survived by her beloved Charlie Johnson; her children, Connie (Mark) Grace Shumacher, Marilyn (Dale) Blum, Charles (Karen) Schneider, John (Aliza) Schneider, Michael (Jennifer) Laurie, Evanne (Mark) Hepler and Aimee (Gary) Eller; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sisters, Mildred (James) Butts and Margaret Ann (George) Dunlap; and brother, James (JoAnn) Krause. Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Alan W. LaRue; her son, James W. Schneider; and a sister, Rosemary Krause. Visitation will be held today, May 9, from 2 to 4 p.m.and 6 to 8 p.m. at McElduff Funeral Home in Frankfort. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Benzonia Twp. Cemetery. The Frankfort Chapel of McElduff Funeral Home & Cremation Service is handling the arrangements. ------------------------------------------- Kathryn M. LaRue - Macomb Daily, The (May 10,2005) Kathryn M. LaRue, 70, a former resident of Benzie County, died Saturday, May 7, 2005, from complications following angioplasty. She was born May 1, 1935, in Mount Clemens. A former figure skater, Mrs. LaRue enjoyed making dolls and painting, and was an avid reader. She loved spending time with her large family and many dear friends. She retired in 1999 as an office manager after many years of employment at Frankfort Plumbing and Heating. She is survived by her companion, Charlie Johnson; children, Connie (Mark) Grace Shumacher, Marilyn (Dale) Blum, Charles (Karen) Schneider, John (Aliza) Schneider, Michael (Jennifer), Laurie, Evanne (Mark) Hepler and Aimee (Gary) Eller; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Mildred (James) Butts and Margaret Ann (George) Dunlap; and brother, James (JoAnn) Krause. She was predeceased by her husband, Alan W. LaRue; son, James W. Schneider; parents, Walter and Lila (Mersman) Krause; and sister, Rosemary Krause. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at McElduff Funeral Home, Frankfort. Burial will be in Benzonia Township Cemetery. ------------------------------------------- Traverse City Record Eagle - July 1999 Alan W. LaRue - Died July 3, 1999 BENZONIA - Alan W. LaRue, 72, of Benzonia, died Saturday at University of Michigan Hospital following lung reduction surgery. Born Nov. 8, 1926, in Iron Mountain, he was the son of Wilfred J. and Rose (Boyer) LaRue. On Jan. 22, 1971, he married Kathryn Krause. Alan served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Kopara and U.S.S. Topica YMS 269. He was the founder of LaRue Marie Carpentry in St. Clair Shores and Betsie Bay Marina in Elberta. After retirement he founded West Michigan Vending. His work as a boat builder and shipwright, along with restoration of antique boats and cars, flying and showing his horses, were a lifelong passion. He is survived by his wife; daughter, Aimee (Gary) Eller of Shelby Township; stepchildren, Connie (Jim) Fry, Constance (Mark) Schumacher, Marilyn (Dale) Blum, Evanne (Mark) Hepler, Charles (Karen) Schneider, John Schneider and Michael (Jennifer) Laurie; two sisters, Louella Hutchenson and Elaine Hill; several grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Gerald and sister, Leota Meyers. Friends may meet with the family from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Perry Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes in Benzonia. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
