Cremation has taken place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee. A full obituary will be in a later edition of the Record-Eagle. She was born in Manistee on Jan. 17, 1943, the daughter of the late Harry and Nada (Garber) Townsend. Laura attended Brethren High School. She married Robert Lee Long in Beulah. Laura enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, canning, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses Church. Laura is survived by her husband, Robert Long, Sr.; sons, Robert (Kelly) Long Jr., Gregory (Mellie) Long, Brian (Jenn) Long, Bradley Long; daughters, Suzy (Vern) Ashcraft, Cindy Michael; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers, Don Townsend, Mike Townsend; and sisters, Pat Mullins, Susie Nizza and Jeneane Mihalik. Preceding Laura in death were her brothers, Harry, Rodger and Bill Townsend; and sister, Marlenne VanBrocklin. A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Oak Grove Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Bear Lake, with Wesley Benner officiating. Final interment will follow at Benzonia Township Cemetery on Love Road in Benzonia. Cremation has taken place at Oak Grove Cemetery in Manistee.
