He was born Dec. 19, 1956, in Frankfort, the son Donald and Donna (Goin) Olney. Gregg was a graduate of Benzie Central Schools, where he excelled in sports, especially track and basketball. Among his awards and honors, he received All- State honors for basketball during his senior year. Gregg earned his bachelor's degree from Ferris State University. He had been employed in sales and marketing by Union Camp Packaging Corporation of Kalamazoo, Menasha Packaging Corporation of Coloma and Packaging Corporation of Grand Rapids. His later business interest was in rental properties. In his spare time, Gregg loved being outdoors, boating, fishing, playing golf and spending time with family. Gregg is survived by his parents, Donald and Donna Olney of Beulah; sister, Shelley (Robert) Rosa of Beulah; brother, Jeffrey (Dawn) Olney of Beulah; nephews, Matthew and Brian Rosa of Beulah; nieces, Nicole and Jennifer Olney of Beulah; long time friend, Cheryl VanDrasek of Coloma; paternal grandmother, Doris Olney of Frankfort; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Gregg was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Max and Beatrice Goin; and his paternal grandfather, Leon Olney. Memorial services will be held Friday, Sept. 30, 2005, at 2 p.m., at the First Congregational Church, U.C.C. in Benzonia, with the Rev. Stephen J. Davidson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ransom Lake Memorial in memory of Gregory S. Olney, in the care of Almira Township, 7276 Sweet Lake Road, Lake Ann, Michigan, 49650. The Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah is in charge of arrangements.
