Stewart, 74, of Benzonia, formerly of Mt. Morris, lost her courageous fight with cancer on Tuesday, March 30, 2004. She was born on April 1, 1929, in Elberta, the daughter of Sheldon Sr. and Beatrice Gilbert. Mrs. Stewart loved to bake and cook, and will be remembered for her possible award-winning jam. She was an avid collector, and enjoyed reading and listening to music. Phyllis is survived by her beloved husband of 55 years, Norman L. Stewart; six loving children, Kathy Marcou, Lynne Marie Stewart, Lee (Robin) Stewart, Cheryl (Tim) Brown, Brian (Debbie) Stewart and Patty (Ron) Konieczka; 14 dear grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; eight siblings, Sheldon 'Tiny' Gilbert Jr., Robert Gilbert, Bonnie Schultheis, Mary Overla, Kenneth Gilbert, David Gilbert, Fay Gilbert and Allen Lowery; and many loving nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special 'thank you' to Gary and Cynthia Lonero. Visitation will be held on Friday, April 2, 2004, from 2 to 8 p.m., at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 3, 2004, also at the funeral home, with the Rev. Floyd Soper officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elberta United Methodist Church; envelopes are available at the funeral home.
