Stoops, 48, of Benzonia passed away Wednesday morning April 24, at Munson Medical Center, Traverse City, after an extended illness. He was born March 13, 1926 in Benzie County, the son of James and Myrtie Stoops. He owned and operated and excavating and landscaping service in the Benzonia area for many years. Surviving him are his widow Phyllis; three sons, Ronald of Arcadia and Phillip and Craig of Benzonia; two daughters, Rae Ann and Mary, at home; four granddaughters; six brothers, Ervie of Kalkaska, Roosevelt of Benzonia, Julius of Honor, Howard of Garden City, John of Farmington and William of Benzonia; four sisters, Mrs. Vera Helm and Miss Margaret Stoops, both of Plymouth, Mrs. Hazel Parsons of Frankfort and Mrs. Blanche Bock of Honor; and also many other relatives. The Rev. Virgil Peterson will officiate at funeral services to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday April 27 at the Frankfort Methodist Church. Mr. Stoops will be buried in the Benzonia Township Cemetery. Stoops" Died; July 25, 2001 Jul. 27,- Benzonia --- Phyllis M. Stoops, 77, od Benzonia, died Wednesday evening, at Bortz Health Care in Traverse City. Mrs. Stoops was born on Dec. 8, 1923, in Arcadia the daughter of Ray and Ila (Gilbert) Cady. She was a lifelong resident of the area, graduating from Arcadia High School. Mrs. Stoops enjoyedknitting, baking and bird watching. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed watching her family members participate in sporting events. She was a member of the Benzie Area Church of Christ in Frankfort. In January 1945, she married Ray Stoops, who preceded her in death in 1974. She was also preceded in death by a brother Daryl Cady and a grandchild. Mrs. Stoops is survived by three sons, Ron (Sue) of Arcadia, Phillip (Pam Crane) and Craig (Gail) both of Benzonia; two daughters, Rae Ann (Don) Tanner of Benzonia and Mary Stoops of Interlochen. She is also survived by two brothers, Bob (Jerri) Johnson of Manistee and Randy (Karen) Johnson of Frankfort, two sisters, Adelle Porter of Benzonia, and Patricia Schoedel of Manistee; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the Benzonia Chapel, McElduff Funeral Home. Services will be on Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Benzie Area Church of Christ with Mr. Robert Bodell, Evangelist. Interment will follow at Benzonia Township cemetery.
