Norma was born Feb. 6, 1921, in Pontiac, to George and Elsie May (Burwell) Vogel. When she was five weeks old, the family moved to Arcadia, and later to Frankfort, where she grew up and graduated from Frankfort High School in 1938. She attended Traverse City State Hospital School of Nursing and the Pontiac Business Institute. She also worked in the War plants during World War II in Pontiac and South Kearney, N.J. In 1979, Norma retired from Bloomfield Township Offices. Norma belonged to the Crystal Lake Art Center, Nomads Travel Club, Great Lakes Lighthouse Keepers Association, and attended Elberta United Methodist Church. In 1942, she married Robert A. Gilroy of Blaine Township. To this union three children were born and survive her, Marjorie G. (John D.) Fann, Robert W. (Diana) Gilroy and Virginia Jo (Dennis) Tucker. Also surviving are four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a niece; one great-nephew; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents; step-mother, Josephine Vogel; sister, Margie Vogel Whitney; and two nieces. Visitation will be Monday, May 30, 2005, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at the Frankfort Chapel of McElduff Funeral Homes. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 31, at 11 a.m., at the Elberta United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Greg Culver officiating. Memorials contributions may be made to the Elberta United Methodist Church. The Frankfort Chapel of McElduff Funeral Homes and Cremation Service is handling the arrangements.
