Arrangements are being made by Hall Funeral Chapel in Manton. --------------------------------------------------------- CADILLAC NEWS - 18 Mar. 2004 Lorne Coykendall MANTON - Lorne Coykendall of Manton died Saturday March 13, 2004 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City, after being in failing health for several years. He was 77. He was born June 28, 1926 in Detroit to Lee and Lettie (Denton) Coykendall. He married Elizabeth Sleep in Angola, Ind. on Jan. 5, 1952. Mr. Coykendall grew up in Allen Park. He served in the Army Air Force from Jan. 7, 1944 to July 28, 1946 and later in the Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He was employed at Nassars in Dearborn for several years and later plant protection for Ford Motor Company and at the Rouge Steel Mill, retiring in 1988. Mr. Coykendall had been a resident of Manton since 1989 and loved living in northern Michigan and watching the deer and other wildlife. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, model trains and airplanes. He was a firearms enthusiast and dearly loved his family and grandchildren. Survivors include his wife; children, Linda (Tim) Amos of Wooster, Ohio, Howard (Rita) Coykendall of Ecorse, Cheryl Knapp of Plymouth, William (Sherry) Coykendall of Fair Haven, Robert (Leigh) Coykendall of Traverse City, Richard (Sherry) Coykendall of Beulah and Terry (Donna) Coykendall of Luther; 23 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Kenneth (Bernice) of Tampa, Fla.; he also is survived by Pete LaBute of Chatham, Ontario, Canada. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Roberta Fuhrman in 2001. Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, 525 W. 14th St., Suite 5, Traverse City, MI 49684.
