Graveside services will be held in the spring. The Frankfort Chapel of McElduff Funeral Homes and Cremation Service is handling the arrangements. ----------------------------- Janice Appleyard FRANKFORT, Mich. -- Janice Appleyard, 89, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at the Maples, Benzie County's Medical Care Facility. Born June 27, 1915, in Bureau County to Leonard and Deborah (Dickens) Anthony, she married George R. Appleyard of Oak Park in 1941. He died in 1998. She graduated as salutatorian of the Wyanet High School class of 1932. She began nurses' training at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, where she obtained her RN in 1936. She remained on staff at West Suburban, serving in the capacity of assistant and head nurse in the nursery until 1942. She also had lived in Sycamore, River Forest and Oak Park before moving to Grand Rapids, Mich., where she also worked as a RN. Surviving are three children, Susan (Gary) Kadlec of Frankfort, Mich., Tony (Vicki) Appleyard of Kalamazoo and Frankfort, Mich., and Peter (Melissa) Appleyard of Marietta, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two siblings, John Anthony and Jean Schaefer. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Crystal Lake Township Cemetery North.
