CHARLOTTE E. MCKAY, 89, of Benzonia Twp., died Sunday, June 18, 2006.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete; a complete obituary will follow in a later 
edition of the Traverse City Record-Eagle.

The Benzonia Chapel of McElduff-Jowett Funeral Homes and Cremation Service is 
handling the arrangements.

McKay, Charlotte E. Spencer  
 
BENZONIA TOWNSHIP — Charlotte was born in Waterford Township to Edith Harris 
Spencer and Roy Carl Spencer. When she was nine-months-old, she moved to 
Clarkston with her mom and dad.

Charlotte graduated from Clarkston High School in 1934 as class salutatorian. 
She also played side center for the girl's varsity basketball team. 

She attended Pontiac Business Institute, and on Sept. 6, 1941, Charlotte 
married Lawrence I. McKay Jr. 

Following Lawrence's return from World War II, the couple moved to Birmingham, 
where they remained until 1977, raising their three children. In 1978, Lawrence 
and Charlotte moved to Frankfort, where they both resided until death.

Charlotte was a well-known Frankfort Panther fan, especially of girls' softball 
and girls' basketball. She was a fixture at almost all the girls' basketball 
games for the last 12 years of her life. She was also a life-long Detroit Tiger 
fan, having watched her first game against the '27 Yankees at Navin Field. 
Charlotte enjoyed all sports, including the Red Wings, Pistons, and especially 
University of Michigan football, to which she and her husband had season 
tickets for nearly 30 years.

Surviving Charlotte are her son, Lawrence I. (Joan) McKay III of Frankfort; 
daughter, Linda McKay Prager (David Mueller) of Santa Fe, N.M.; and daughter, 
Mary (Tadge) McKay Juechter of Troy. Grandchildren include Dr. Jeremy (Amanda) 
Prager of St. Louis, Mo., Eliza McKay Prager of Ann Arbor, Katherine Swartz 
McKay of Frankfort, Charlotte Spencer McKay of Frankfort and Zoe Sheng Mueller 
of Santa Fe, N.M.; two nieces; one nephew; three grand-nephews; two grand-
nieces; and many cousins.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years in 1994. 

Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the 
Frankfort/Elberta Athletic Association, PO Box 593, Frankfort, MI 49635, for 
girls' basketball or softball; the Benzie County Animal Welfare League, PO Box 
172, Frankfort, MI 49635; or St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 785 Beulah Highway, 
Beulah, MI 49617.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 30, 2006, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 
p.m., at the Frankfort Facility. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 
1, 2006, at 11 a.m., at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, 785 Beulah Highway, 
Beulah, MI 49617.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by McElduff-Jowett Funeral Homes.
