Rogers, 91, of Frankfort, died Monday, Dec. 8, 2003, at The Maples. Eugene was born on July 10, 1912, in Detroit, the son of Eugene D. and Marie (Lauth) Rogers. On May 20, 1949, he married Margery Miller. Eugene grew up in the Detroit area, graduating from Birmingham High School, and attending Wayne State University, where he majored in business administration. He began working for IBM in 1939, where he was a sales trainee. During his 31-year career with IBM, he held various management positions, retiring in 1970 as the Division's community relations representative. Eugene and his family had been summer residents of Frankfort for many years. Upon his retirement, he purchased the Garden Theatre and ran it for three years. Eugene was very active in the community, serving as the Secretary of the Frankfort Chamber of Commerce, on the Board of Directors of Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital, and as a former member of the Rotary Club of Frankfort. Eugene was instrumental in the planting of trees along Main Street in Frankfort, and was the co-chairman of the Glider Festival. He was also a member of St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Beulah. Eugene is survived by his wife, Margery Miller; his children, David (Caren) Rogers of Juno, Alaska, Gregory Rogers of Traverse City, Robert (Debra) Gilbert of Ann Arbor, and Judy (Dr. Bill) Moss of Santa Ana, Calif.; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Pat Wilkinson of Florida. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Elizabeth. Memorial services will be held this summer and will be announced by the Frankfort Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes, who is serving the family. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider either The Maples, St. Philip's Episcopal Church, or the Benzie County Animal Welfare League.
