Noffsinger, 79, of Benzonia, formerly of Elberta, died Saturday, May 22, 2004, at The Maples. Martin was born on May 15, 1925, in Frankfort, the son of Grover C. and Elizabeth (Martin) Noffsinger. Martin was a life-long resident of Benzie County. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, bingo and playing cards with his family. He was a giving person who was very generous in looking after his family, friends and many others. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and received an honorable discharge. He was a member of the Mortenson Post 221 American Legion in Frankfort and was the senior member, having just received his pin for 60 years of membership. He retired as a Merchant Marine officer on the Ann Arbor car ferries in 1982, after 33 years of service. On June 28, 1953, in Elberta, he married Helen Barrons Lautner. She preceded him in death on Oct. 12, 1995. Martin is survived by his son John (Debbie) Lautner; two daughters, Jean (David) Curtis and Jacqueline Fine, all of Frankfort; grandchildren, Kimberly Putney, Noel Schlueter, Jeffrey and Jennifer Fine and Martin Lautner;and five great-grandchildren. Five brothers preceded Martin in death, Cyril, James, Judson, Dale and Glen; as well as one sister, Beatrice Pierce. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 2, 2004, at Gilmore Township Township Cemetery with Pastor S. James Petteys officiating. Military graveside services will be under the auspices of Mortensen Post 221 American Legion of Frankfort. The family has requested memorial contributions be directed to The Maples in Frankfort, or Benzie Home Health Care. The Frankfort Chapel, McElduff Funeral Homes served the family.
