Thelma was born in Frankfort on May 9, 1918, the daughter of Grant and Hope (Keilor) Stratton. Jackie graduated from Frankfort High School and lived in Benzie County most of her life. A professional cook for many years, Jackie worked in restaurants and private residences. Her flair and enthusiasm for great cooking was only surpassed by her love of animals, especially horses. She taught riding lessons at Camp Crystalaire and especially enjoyed mentoring local girls in horsemanship. After the death of her husband, John R. Thompson, in 1980, Jackie built her dream home - a house/barn combination on Grace Road where she could be close to her beloved Arabian horses. She is survived by sons Paul Gilroy of Wilson, Wy, Robert (Teresa) Jeffs, his daughters Rebecca, Darcy, Megan Jeffs, Steven (Martha) Jeffs and their son, Patrick and Amelia Gilroy, daughter of Greg. In addition to her husband, Jackie was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Grant "Bud" Stratton, Ray "Nub" Stratton and Dale "Turp" Stratton, and son Greg Gilroy. There will be a visitation at McElduff-Jowett Funeral Home in Benzonia at 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Welfare League, P.O.
