"Grandma"Lung, 85, died Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at Munson Medical Center. She was born Sept. 9, 1919, in Bradford, Ohio, the daughter of the late Jacob Henry and Mae Blanche (Deyo) Overla. Eileen married Everet Ople Lung on July 16, 1937, in Petoskey. He preceded her in death in March 1991. She was a member of Honor Congregational Church, Benzie County Farm Bureau, Senior Citizens of Honor, Silver-toppers and Platte River Association. Eileen cooked for her husband's lumber camp crews in Petoskey and the Upper Peninsula. For 23 years, Eileen was a Sunday school teacher for Honor Congregational Church, as well as chairperson for a year, a trustee for three years and a deaconess for a year. Eileen's fortune was her children, not material wealth. She is survived by her sons, Larry (Lola) Lung of Beulah, Jerry (Jacqueline) Lung of Beulah, Richard (Carolyn) Lung of Beulah and Duane Lung of Hudsonville; daughters, Mrs. John (Cheryl) Acre of Jenison and Mrs. Mark (Jean) Szuch of Benzonia; 31 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Claire; granddaughter, Trina Lung; sisters, Mildred Mae and Margarette; brothers, Mel and Dale; and daughters-in-law, Cindy and Mary Jane. Visitation will be today, June 24, 2005, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Benzonia Chapel of McElduff-Jowett Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 25, at 1 p.m., also at the funeral home, with the Rev. Thomas Maher officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be in the Homestead Township Township Cemetery. Those desiring may make contributions to the Honor Congregational Church. The Benzonia Chapel of McElduff-Jowett Funeral Homes and Cremation Service is handling the arrangements.
