He was born April 23, 1931, in Ingham County, the son of Clarence J. and Florence (Best) Hendershott. Clarence served in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1952. He worked as a mechanic and truck driver for the city of Lansing for 30 years. Afterwards, he moved to Beulah, where he worked as a greens keeper at Crystal Downs in Frankfort. Later, he worked as a maintenance man for the Boardman Lake Apartments in Traverse City. In his spare time, Clarence loved hunting, fishing and woodworking. Clarence is survived by two sons, Ernest "Rocky" Hendershott of Traverse City and Michael Hendershott of Beulah; one daughter, Cheryl Campbell of Lansing; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Charles (Judy) Hendershott of Elberta, Larry Hendershott of Lansing and Raymond (Joan) Hendershott of Beulah; one sister, Carol Tomlinson of Nashville, Tenn.; and numerous nieces and nephews. On Feb. 29, 1952, in Lansing, Clarence married Lillian M. Pequeno, who preceded him in death in 2002. He was also preceded in death by two grandsons, Chad Michael and Christopher Michael Hendershott. Memorial services will be held Thursday, July 7, 2005, at 1 p.m., at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah. The family will receive friends Thursday from noon until time of services. The family would like to thank Kelly, Alisha and Shanda for their special care of Clarence in his time of need. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
