He was born in Frankfort Feb. 9, 1932, to Francis "Frank" and Martha Bancroft (MacGirr). His parents moved to Flint so that he could attend the Michigan School for the Deaf, from where he graduated in 1951. On May 21, 1955, he married Eleanor M. Drake; together they raised two sons, Charles and Michael. Russell was employed at Buick, where he worked on the line for 35 1/2 years and was a member of the UAW Local #559. After retirement he moved back to Benzie County to support his mother and enjoy snowmobiling, hunting and entertaining his grandchildren. Recently Russell was a supporter of the Benzie County Sportsman Club, the Grand Traverse Area UAW Retirees, and the Traverse City Association of the Deaf. He was preceded in death by his parents; Martha's second husband, Bill MacGirr; and his best man, John Hultquist. He leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Eleanor; sons, Charles Francis and Michael Russell (Laura), and their children, Andrew, Jonathan, Krystal, Joshua, Catherine, Josiah and Carissa; cousin, Eliott Bancroft; and good friend, Dale Thompson. Visitation will take place today, March 20, at the Frankfort Chapel of McElduff Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 21, at the Benzonia Chapel with Ethan DeSota officiating. Interment will be in Platte Twp. Cemetery this spring. The Benzonia Chapel of McElduff Funeral Home & Cremation Service is handling the arrangements. Russell F.
