Heffelfinger Died October 25, 2005 TRAVERSE CITY - Margaret A. (Ainslie) Heffelfinger of Traverse City died peacefully Oct. 25, 2005, with her family beside her. Margaret was born Aug. 16, 1922, to The Rev. Thomas and Clara (Roth) Ainslie in Hersey, at the Congregational Parsonage. She married Harold A. Heffelfinger on June 21, 1942. In their 63 years of marriage, they proudly raised three children in Traverse City. Margaret was a homemaker, and she and Harold owned and operated a local fruit orchard. She was known to "drive the tractor better than the rest of them." She enjoyed playing the organ, cooking, gardening and needlepoint, and will be lovingly remembered for her contributions to the community. She was a wonderful cook; those fortunate enough to taste her famous pies, secret-recipe potato salad, and fruit salad, would not dispute that they are the "world's best." The true essence of Margaret was expressed through her wit, wisdom, warmth, and love of life. Every summer she proudly helped take care of migrant infants and cooked for countless members of the bands that participated in the Cherry Festival. She was a longtime member of both the Thompsonville Church and Oak Park Congregational Church. She was a devoted, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband, Harold; sons, Ron (Mari) Heffelfinger of Thompsonville and Greg (Adriane) Heffelfinger of Houston, Texas; and daughter, Sue (Tom) McKinley of Cypress, Texas. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Margaret held many special people close to her heart, including special friend, Nancy Kroupa. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Oliver J. Ofield. Friends and family may visit from noon to 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, at the First Congregational Church of Thompsonville, 14786 Lincoln Ave, Thompsonville, MI. The memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to The First Congregational Church of Thompsonville. The family is grateful to the staff of Brigadoon, Munson Hospice, and Rev. Steve Davidson for their compassionate care during her final weeks. Arrangements are being handled by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home.
