Petersen Wieland b. 1918 d. 2006 --------------------------------------- Wieland, Charlotte Marie TRAVERSE CITY — Charlotte Marie Wieland, 88, of Traverse City, entered into eternal life on August 26, 2006, at Munson Medical Center. Born on April 29, 1918, in Coon Rapids, Iowa, she was the only child of the late Henry George and Elsie Marie (Lindy) Petersen. As a young child she moved to northern Michigan with her parents, settling in Thompsonville. Charlotte graduated from Thompsonville High School with the class of 1936, and earned the honor to deliver the Valedictory. She furthered her education by attending Benzie County Normal in Frankfort and the Lewis Chapin Business School in Traverse City. Charlotte was possessed with a sense of the ridiculous and had a penchant for always writing or saying the right thing to meet any occasion. She was an avid reader and enjoyed working crossword puzzles. Charlotte is survived by her loving family; son, David H. Wieland of Midland; daughter, Kathleen E. Owen of Traverse City; son, Joel G Wieland of Suttons Bay; grandchildren, Leslie (Gregg) Gallagher and their children, Lauren and Ryan, all of Grand Rapids; Trevor (Kristen) Wieland of Grand Rapids; and Jodi (Tracy) Thomas and their children, Audrey and Zachary, all of Midland. She was preceded in death by her youngest daughter, Julie Lynn Wieland. Julie was a special child with very special needs. Charlotte worked tirelessly throughout her life to better the circumstances of the developmentally disabled. She was also preceded in death by a special family friend, James V. Bradley of Saginaw, a stroke victim, whose betterment she also worked towards. Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 30, from Bethlehem Lutheran Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. James Vargo will be officiating. A luncheon will follow at the church. Graveside Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Thompsonville Cemetery, Thompsonville. In remembrance of Charlotte, memorials may be directed to Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Envelopes may be obtained at the church. The Wieland family would like to acknowledge the staff of Munson Medical Center- 4th floor for the wonderful care given to Charlotte.
