Grand Traverse Herald March 4, 1859
The house of George Pierce, in Wesaw Berrien Co., was burned to the ground on 
the morning of Feb. 1st, between 4 and 5 o'clock, and two young men, asleep in
the chamber, perished in the flames, and the rest of the family barely escaped 
with their lives.

One of the young men, Walter B. Kinney, was constable of the township of 
Wesaw.  The other, named Larue, both young men of good character, carpenters 
by trade, and had commenced work for Mr. Pierce only the day before the sad 
occurrence.
