Death of Hon. L.P. Alexander

	The Hon. Lorenzo P. Alexander, one of the oldest, best and most influential
citizens of this county, died at his home in Buchanan yesterday June 27, 1894.
	Mr. Alexander was born in Alleghany county, New York, August 10, 1820.  He came
to this county in October of 1841 and located in Buchanan.  In 1845 he was
elected constable and treasurer of the township, and has been supervisor many
times since 1853, when first chosen to that office.  He was postmaster from 1861
to 1865 and again from 1877 to 1885.  In 1860 he was elected a member of the
lower house of the legislature over the late Royal T. Twombly, of this city, and
in 1867 he was a member of the constitutional convention, being chosen over the
Hon. Henry Chamberlain, of Three Oaks.  Subsequently he served this county in
the State senate.
	Mr. Alexander was a safe and prudent business man, wise in council and foremost
in every movement of the public interest.  In politics he was a Republican and
was seldom absent from the conventions of his party.
	Mr. Alexander had two wives, his first wife being a sister of Mrs. A. Egbert
and Mrs. L.P. Fox, of this city.  His second wife was Miss Burns of New York. 
He leaves two children, Mrs. Henry French of Cassopolis, and John B. of Spokane
Falls.
	He will be buried with Masonic honors at 2 o’clock tomorrow, Friday, afternoon.
