The Herald Palladium carried the obituary of Arvena Brackett on 02 May 
2002:  “Arvena Ula Brackett New Troy-Arvena Ula Brackett, 83, of New Troy, 
died May 1, 2002, at Cambridge Court Nursing Facility, Berrien Springs, after 
an extended illness.  Arvena was born Aug 28, 1918, in Middlebrook, Ark., the 
daughter of Thad and Gussie (Rapert) Hambrick.  She married first, Farris 
Daniel in Arkansas.  They had two children and they divorced.  She married 
second on Feb. 12, 1946, in Bridgman, Harold Earl Brackett and they had three 
children.  Arvena is survived by twp sons-James (Dolores) Daniel of Orlando, 
Fla., and William (Jane) Brackett of Niles; two daughters-Charlotte (Marvon) 
Walk of Three Oaks and Harlen Heppler of New Troy; nine grandchildren and 12 
great-grandchildren.  Arvena was preceded in death by all of her brothers and 
sisters; her husband, Harold Brackett; an infant daughter, Edna Daniel; and 
two grandsons-Paul Heppler and Michael Daniel.  Arvena was a member of 
Bertrand Bible Church and the New Troy American Legion Auxiliary.  She retired 
from Gerwin Inc. of New Buffalo.  Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. 
Friday, May 3, at the Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan.  Friends and family may 
call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.  Burial will follow in the 
New Troy Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Day Services for 
Seniors, 2001 Niles Ave., St. Joseph, or the West Michigan Chapter of the 
Alzheimer’s Association.  Arrangements are entrusted to Hoven Funeral Home.”
