Herald Palladium 27 Mar 1994
The Herald Palladium carried LaVern Brant’s obituary on 27 Mar 1994 and it 
reads: “LaVern Brant LaVern W. Brant, 87, of Benton Harbor died Friday at 
Mercy Memorial Medical Center, St. Joseph. The funeral will be held Tuesday at 
1 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, St. Joseph, of which he was a 
member. Friends may call today from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Kerley & 
Starks Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Burial will be in Crystal Springs Cemetery. 
Memorials may be made to the church. Mr. Brant was born July 11, 1906 in 
Manistee, Mich. He was formerly employed as a tool grinder for Ross Carrier, 
Benton Harbor, for 17 years and then Bendix Corp. for 2 years. Survivors 
include: his wife, the former Gertrude Phillips, whom he married in 1935; two 
sons-Willis “Will” Brant of Berrien Springs and earl Brant of Portland, Ore.; 
a daughter, LaVonne Krause of Stevensville; five grandchildren; three great-
grandchildren; and a sister Ruth Kelly of Harker Heights, Texas.”
