Brown, 74, will be held at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the family home, 306 South Oak street, and burial will be in Riverside cemetery, Three Oaks. Mr. Brown died at this home here on Thursday following a long illness. He was a butcher for local meat markets for more than 35 years and was the father of Harry B. Brown, former Buchanan village president, and of Van Brown, actor on the Ohio river show boat which was the basis of Edna Ferber’s famous book, “The Show Boat.” Mr. Brown was born in Virginia, January 17, 1854. He came to Buchanan in 1889 from Ohio and had since resided here. He was married to Miss Bay Beckley, who died in 1884. His second wife, Mrs. Carrie Drew Brown, died in 1897. In 1899, he was married to Miss Cora H. Gauntt, of Buchanan, who survives. Three sons, Harry B., of Buchanan, Van, of Huron, South Dakota, and Nathan, of Waukegan, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. Charles Dumbolton, of Buchanan, and an adopted son, Bernard Brown, of Buchanan, survive.
