BROWN It was with surprise that people in this place were informed last Thursday, that Julius Brown was dangerously ill at Hotel Higbee in Benton Harbor. Later, his death was a surprise for he was a man in the prime of life and of rather unusual physical strength. It was believed that his splendid constitution and general good health would enable him to pull through. But it was not to be. Julius was born April 24, 1864, in the old Brown residence on the farm now owned by Mrs. Mason, on the Pokagon road in Berrien township. He was the fourth son of the late Ethan A. Brown, who died at Lansing in 1875 while a member of the legislature. His mother survives and Harry of this village, his brother, and Miles, another brother now lives at Benton Harbor. Mrs. Geo. H. Murdoch, Jr. is his only sister. She was ill at the time of his burial and unable to go to the Harbor. Mrs. Brown, Harry and his daughter, Ray, and Frank, son of the later Capt. Brown went down and were present at the funeral which was conducted by Rev. Dr. Petrie, rector of the Episcopal church at Benton Harbor. Six prominent young men at the city acted as bearers and the services were impressive. Interment was in Crystal Springs cemetery. He was the third of Mrs. Brown’s sons to die prematurely, if age and natural strength be considered. Additional Comments: Date of death not clear in obit but Berrien Death returns for 1902 state Jan. 4. Other family burials were at Union cemetery in Berrien Twp. Father Ethan A.
