EDWARDS, PIONEER, STRICKEN Mrs. Matilda Edwards, 92, a pioneer resident of Berrien and Cass counties, died this morning at the home of her nephew, Addison E. Van Riper, 2203 North Fifth street. She had been in poor health for several years. Mrs. Edward was born Jan. 10, 1843, in Haverstraw, N.Y., the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs., John A. Van Riper. The Van Riper family is of early Colonial Descent. Mrs. Edwards moved to LaGrange, Cass county, with her parents in 1856. The former Niles men, the late J.J. Van Riper and Louis Van Riper, were brothers of Mrs. Edwards, and both lived on Grant street. J.J. Van Riper became an attorney for the U.S. supreme court. Surviving Mrs. Edwards are three nephews, Addison Van Riper, Niles; James C. Van Riper, Omaha, Neb., and Dr Paul Van Riper, Champion, Mich. Friends may call at the Rutherford funeral home.
