April 15, 1915, page 3 DEATH TAKES EUGENE FARRAN Eugene Farran, son of Henry and Sarah Farran, was born in Bertrand township, Dec. 30, 1870, and died in Buchanan at the home of his sister, Mrs. Nellie Sherwood, April 9, 1915, age 44years, 3 months and 9 days. In 1873 he came with his parents to the farm home in Bakertown, where he spent his life, with the exception of nearly two years spent in Washington and California, returning from there about four weeks before his death. December 27, 1911, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Thorburn, of Benton Harbor. Death took her from him Feb. 22, 1913. It was this which caused him to dispose of his personal property and journey westward, in what proved a vain effort to assuage his grief. He was ever a man of genial, sunny disposition, making friends wherever he went, ready to sacrifice his personal interests for those he loved. As life’s days were drawing to a close, he called old-time friends to his bedside and did what he could to make his peace with God. Funeral services, conducted by J. J. Terry, were held in the Christian church of Buchanan at 2 p.m. Monday, April 12. More than 30 members of the I.O.O.F. attended in a body and preceded the funeral procession to the Howe cemetery, where, with impressive service, they laid the body of their brother to rest.
