John P. Flaherty, Native of Niles, Dies at Mich. City

	John P. Flaherty, 80, Michigan City, a native of Niles and well 
known among railroad employes here, died Friday at his home after a two 
weeks' illness.  He had resided in Michigan City 45 years.
	Born here Nov. 22, 1856, the son of John and Bridget Flaherty, he 
was one of the earliest alumni of Notre Dame university, where he received a 
degree in 1875.  His wife, Margaret Smith Flaherty, died 15 years ago.
	He had been pensioned by the Michigan Central railroad after 40 
years of service.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Catholic Order of Foresters and 
the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
	He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. F.W. Cook, Niles, and Mrs. Agnes 
Enfield, Los Angeles, Calif.; two sons, Joseph, South Bend, and William, 
Kansas city , Mo., and a daughter, Mrs. A.J. LaGess, Chicago.
	Funeral services probably will be held on Monday.

Niles News In Brief:  FLAHERTY RITES TODAY

	Burial services were held today at Calvary cemetery for John 
Flaherty, Michigan City, retired passenger engineer on the Michigan Central.  
Requiem high mass was celebrated in Michigan city at 9 o'clock and the body 
was brought to Mr. Flaherty's former home for burial.
