Obituary from the August 12, 1920 Three Oaks Acorn: 
Aged New Buffalo Pioneer Dead
To have lived to see a country grow from a wilderness to its present stage, to 
have lived to see the railroad brought to New Buffalo until to day the flying 
machine passes over the land on which he lived was the life story of August 
Haman father of Ernest Haman of Three Oaks who died Wednesday, August 4, at 
the home of his son , near New Buffalo at an advanced age of 91 years 4 months 
and 13 days. 
August Haman was born in Mecklenburg Schwerin, Germany on, the 17th day of 
March 1829 and passed this life August 4th 1920.  
In the year 1856 he was married to Mary Gerber, and came to America in 1857.  
To this union were born eight children; Ernest, Charles, Henry, William and 
August.  Three children having died in infancy. 
His faithful wife preceded him in death October 21, 1918 at a ripe age of 82 
years.  He leaves an only brother Louis, 5 children, 15 grandchildren, 3 great 
grandchildren, 4 daughter-in-laws and 1 son-in-law Ernest Kruger. 
Burial took place on Sunday afternoon at the New Buffalo cemetery.  Rev. J. 
Hetzel officiating.
