The Berrien County Record carried the obituary of Dorothea Hauch on 21 Nov 
2002:  “ Dorothea Hauch New Troy—Dorothea Hauch, 91, formerly of New Troy, 
died Sunday morning, Nov. 17 at Golden Place in St. Joseph.  Mrs. Hauch was 
born July 17, 1911 in Galien to August and Anna (Schrumpf) Hess.  She 
graduated from Galien High School and from Western Michigan College in 
Kalamazoo.  She taught elementary school for 30 years, first at Burke School 
and later at Lakeshore public Schools, until her retirement.  She was a member 
of Harbert Community Church.  On Aug. 31, 1940, she married Otto Hauch in 
Three Oaks, and he preceded her in death on March 14, 1988.  She is survived 
by her many nieces and nephews.  Also preceding her in death was a brother, 
Theodore Hess; and sisters, Lodema Wolkins, Lillian Stavenger, Ida Ratz and 
Esther Gage.  Services are on Wednesday, Nov 20 at Pobocik Funeral Home.  
Interment follows at New Troy Cemetery.  Memorials are to the church or to 
Hospice at Home of Stevensville.”
