Gilbert Hayes was born in Hartford, Conn., in the year 1831.  At the age of 22,
he inlisted[sic] in Co., E. 25th Con. Vol.  He came to Michigan in 1866, married
Miss Wealthy Snyder in 1877, and in '88 they moved to York, Neb.  Mr. Hays was
converted and joined the Presbyterian church, and returning to Michigan he
united with the U.B. church.  He lived a good life until April 2, '05, when
death came and it found him ready.  He leaves a companion and many friends to
mourn the loss of a kind husband, friend and neighbor.  The funeral services
were conducted by Rev. J.A. Blickenstaff at the Long Lake church, April 4, '05.
