The Niles Daily Star carried the obituary of Wilson Herman on 21 Apr 
1986:  “Wilson H. Herman  Wilson H. Herman, 73, of 47506 84th Ave., Decatur, 
died Sunday at 3:40pm at the home of his daughter Maxine Wheetley of 
Buchanan.  He was formerly a Galien resident.  Herman was born Nov. 21, 1912 
in Berrien Springs.  On June 11, 1931 he married Gertrude Hinspeter, in South 
Bend, Ind.  She survives.  Other survivors include three daughters, June Lear 
of Buchanan, Clara Bonham of Winter Haven, Fl.; and Maxine Wheetley of 
Buchanan; a son Gary Herman of Buchanan as well as two brothers, Albert Herman 
of Buchanan and Ralph Herman of Edwardsburg; four sisters, Evelyn Smith, 
Mildred Lear and Illah Sutton all of Buchanan, and Hattie Quardokus of St. 
Joseph.  He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and five great-
grandchildren.  Funeral services are Wednesday at 1:30p.m. at Swem Funeral 
Home in Buchanan.  The Rev. Larry Whiteford, of Fulkerson Park Baptist Church, 
Niles will officiate.  Burial will be in Galien Cemetery.  Friends may call 
Tuesday from 4 to 9 p.m.  Memorials may be made to Berrien County Cancer 
Service.”  DOD 20 Apr 1986
