Jane Norris was born in Vermont in 1801; converted at the age of twelve, and united with the M.E. church; married to Stephen Hobert in 1824; come to Berrien county and settled on a farm south of Bakertown, now owned by John Currier, in 1829. Their neighbors were Indians. They were among the first to organize the M.E. church in Buchanan. She was always first in church and benevolent work. The poor and sick always found in her a true friend, and one to help when in sorrow. Grandmother Hobert’s name has been, and will be, a household word in the homes of Buchanan.
