BERRIEN COUNTY

J. Eastman Johnson died at Niles, March 14, 1888, aged 83.
J. Eastman Johnson was born in Alstead, New Hampshire, in the year 1805, and
became a resident of St. Joseph county, of this State, in 1837.  He served as
prosecuting attorney of that county for three successive terms; was elected
judge of probate, and served for twelve years in that honorable position; was
also a member of the board of regents, of the State university, for twelve years.
