Sept. 20, 1877, page 3 Death of Dr. Loomis On Saturday last, the 15th inst., Dr. Joel Loomis, an old and well known citizen of this city, died at his residence on Third street, of paralysis, aged 62 years. Dr. Loomis was born in Clark Co., Ohio, July 23d, 1815. he removed with his father’s family to Laporte Co., Ind. in 1834. His health failing so as to disable him for life on the farm, he devoted himself to the study of medicine in 1844, and in 1847 married and located in Logansporte, Ind. In 1849, he removed to Niles, and in 1858 erected his residence in Third street. This was his home till the day of his death. About thirteen years ago he was visited with an attack of paralysis, which left him an invalid and a sufferer from intense pain much of the time. These years of suffering, laying him aside from the active duties of his profession, were passed in patience and in expectation of release by detah only. Symptoms of paralysis returned on the 14th, on the morning of the 15th the attack became severe, and after a few hours of unconsciousness, he quietly passed from his sufferings. Dr. Loomis was widely and favorably known, especially among the older citizens of the community. His genial presence will never be forgotten. His remains were taken to Laporte, Ind., for burial in the family burying ground in that city.
