Markley Dies at Farm Home West of Buchanan Buchanan, Nov. 21—Funeral services for William George Markley, 73 years old, who died Saturday evening at 6:30 o’clock at his farm home, eight miles west of Buchanan, after an illness of two years with diabetes, will be held from the Hamilton mortuary, Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. The Rev. Thomas Rice, pastor of the Methodist church, officiated.[sic] Mr. Markley was born Oct. 1, 1859, near Sawyer and has lived in Buchanan township for 60 years. He was the son of George and Christine Markley, pioneers in Berrien county. On May 28, 1885 he was united in marriage to Bertha Stannard and to this union three children were born. Two daughters who survive and one son who died 20 years ago. Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Bertha Markley, two daughters, Mrs. Bernice Everman of Niles, and Mrs. June Cauffman of Buchanan township. Also three brothers, Fred, of Wall Lake, Mich., Frank of Buchanan and Albert of New Jersey, and one sister, Mrs. Alice Helmick of Niles. Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery. Buchanan Record, Thurs. Pioneer Died Saturday Night William George Markley, 73, for over seventy years a resident of Buchanan township, passed away in his residence, Rural Route No. 3, Galien, Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Mr. Markley, the son of George and Christina Markley, was born in Sawyer, Oct. 1, 1859. He was married to Bertha Stannard May 28, 1885. He is survived by the widow, two daughters, Mrs. Bernice Everman of Niles and Mrs. June Cauffman of Buchanan township; 3 brothers, Fred Markley of Wall Lake, Mich., Frank Markley of Buchanan, Albert Markley of New Jersey; and a sister, Mrs. Alice Helmick of Niles.
