Oct. 10, 1935 p. 8 The death of Mrs. Josie Marrs Mattern occurred early Sunday morning in San Diego, Calif., according to word received by relatives. Mrs. Mattern, a foster daughter of the late Hugh Marrs of Berrien Springs, was born 83 years ago, on September 3, in St. Joseph. Mrs. Mattern leaves one sister, Mrs. Anna Tryon, of Tryon’s Corners, one niece, Mrs. Nellie McHold, Tryon’s Corners, and one nephew, G.B. Paxton, of St. Joseph. Mrs. Mattern was the widow of Harry Mattern, a Civil war veteran, and belonged to the G.A.R.circle, a number of other patriotic organizations, and the Congregational church in San Diego. She was well known in the county where she visited about six years ago. For a number of years she had been an invalid. Funeral services were held Tuesday in San Diego.
