Niles Daily Star 26 Feb 1987
The Niles Daily star carried the obituary for Ruth Nichols on 26 Feb 1987 and 
it reads:  “Ruth B. Nichols, 78, 1950 S. 13th St., died at 1:45 p.m. Tuesday 
at St. Joseph’s Medical Center, South Bend, Ind., following an extended 
illness.  Nichols was a former bank employee with Federal Land Bank & Farmers 
& Merchant Bank, and a member of New Troy America Legion Auxiliary.  She was 
born Feb 9, 1909 in South Bend, Ind., and lived her lifetime in the area.  On 
Dec. 29, 1929, she married Reuben Nichols who died in 1950.  Survivors 
include: a son, Myron “Nick” Nichols of Anaheim Calif.; a brother, Martin 
Mensinger of New Troy; a sister, Doris Casper of South Bend; two 
grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.  Services will be at 11 a.m. 
Saturday at Halbritter Funeral Home with Rev. John T. Charter of Grace United 
Methodist Church officiating.  Burial will be in New Troy Cemetery, New Troy.  
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Halbritter Funeral 
Home.  Memorials may be made to the Niles Community Library.”  Ruth was the 
daughter of Henry and Laura (Replogle) Burgoyne.  Laura married 2nd Fred 
Mensinger.  DOD 24 Feb 1987
