Aug. 31, 1898 Mrs. Richard (Mary A. Slattery) O'Connell 1842-1898 Mortuary Record From Monday's Star Mrs. R. O'Connell Mrs. Richard O'Connell, passed away tranquilly at 9 o'clock last night. Although the silent messenger came quickly and almost without warning yet the family, the physician and her friends had realized that she was far from well. Although her death is attributed to cholera morbus, with which she had ben very ill for a few days, Mrs O'Connell had not been well for a long time and had been quite poorly this summer. One had only to know the deceased in life to feel that a woman who combined religion with practical kindness and a never-ceasing endeavor to alleviate the sorrow of others, is gone--her life cares are o'er. A heart that felt for others has ceased to do its work. Mrs. O'Connell was born in County Kerry, Ireland, in 1842 and was therefore 56 years of age. She spent her girlhood's happy days in her native home in in '68 bade farewell to the green hills of old Ireland and sailed for Americas. In 1878 he was married to Richard O'Connell of this city. She was a devout member of St. Mary's church and was highly esteemed throughout the entire community. (Source: Niles Weekly Mirror, Wed.
