Albert Olds abt. 1819-Died Sept. 16, 1849 Niles Republican, Saturday, Sept. 22, 1849, page 2, col. 6, cont. page 3, col. 1, microfilm Niles District Library DEATHS Departed this life, on Saturday the 16th instant, Captain Albert Olds, of a pulmonary affliction, age 30 years. Capt. Olds was the son of Judge Daniel Olds, who is now in California. The disease had long preyed upon his system. Last fall, by advice of his friends and physician, he travelled south for his health and spent his winter in Alabama, but returned last spring to die among his friends, than whom few men had more or better. Capt. O. was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, many of whom attended his funeral obsequies. While we have had to record this death of many of our citizens within the past year, the loss of no one is more deeply felt than that of our deceased friend. His sprightliness, urbanity of manners and sterling integrity had won for him a name and fame that will live long after he shall have lain in his grave. A mother, three sisters and one brother are all of his immediate relatives here to mourn his early exit to that bourne from whence no traveller returns. Sad, sad intelligence will this be when it shall reach his aged father, elder brother and sister and brother-in-law, on the Pacific. Yet, while they mourn, it will be a solace for them to know all was done which could be done to restore him to health and to render him comfortable while he did live, but his disorder baffled medical skill, he has paid the debt of nature. "Hope looks beyond the bounds of Time, When what we now deplore Shall rise in full immortal prime, And bloom to fade no more." His remains were followed to the grave by a large concourse of friends who manifested more than ordinary feelings on like occasions.
