Purdy Niles--John M. (Jack) Purdy, 53, of 11 N. Barrett, died at 1:30 a.m. today at Pawating Hostpital, following an extended illness. Mr. Purdy was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Niles Elks Lodge, the American Legion Post 26, the Buchanan Moose Lodge, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in World War II. A conductor for Amtrak, he was born Nov. 24, 1923 in Niles and had lived his lifetime in the area. Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Marlin J. Purdy of Niles; a son, James R. of Chicago; and a daughter, Miss Patricia M. of Niles. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. John D. Slowey, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Halbritter Funeral Home, where a rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
