REDDING James H. Redding was born in Preble county, O., in the year 1823, and lived there with his father, the late B.M. redding, of this city, unil the year 1833, when they came to Michigan and settled at Dayton, this county. His father built the first saw mill between this place and Chicago. A few years later they took up a large tract of land on Terre Coupe prairie and went to farming. On his father's removal to this city he went to farming for several years, until about 1864 when he came to his city and lived here several years and then went to farming again and lived at Dayton until last January, when he was taken sick and came to Niles and lived with his niece, Mrs. Emma Smith, until his death, which occurred last Friday evening. He was buried at Dayton, on Sunday, at 2 o'clock, p.m. Mr. Redding was a quiet, unobtrusive man, kind-hearted to a fault, always willing to oblige and help his frineds when in need. He never married until about 12 years ago, when he was married to Mrs. Rozell, of Dayton, who survives him.
