Feb. 7, 1901, page 4 Buchanan Record, Thurs. Feb. 7, 1901, page 4 Mrs. James Reynolds Nancy Sophrnoia[sic] Howe was born at Truxton, Courtland Co., N.Y. April 17, 1827, and died at her home on Terre Coupee, St. Joseph Co., Ind., Wednesday morning, January 30, 1901. She was the daughter of Frederick and Polly Howe who came to Michigan from Massachusetts in 1835. Was married February 14, 1853 to James Reynolds, an enterprising business man and together they have journeyed with singleness of purpose for 48 years, the path thickly strewn with joys and sorrows of this life. The varied scenes in the life of this pioneer woman in the, then, unsettled west, were of a nature to build up and round out a beautiful Christian character. . . . was ever at the bedside of the sick, and ever ready with open hand and heart to respond, her unbounded faith in the goodness of God has left its impress in the church of her faith and home circle. Sorrows crushing weight was sorely felt in the death of two beloved children just as life seemed brightest; but their death was but a connecting link of the Heavenly Home, to the hearts here below. Two brothers, Hezekiah and Charles Howe, husband, and two daughters, Mrs. A.N. VanRiper and Mrs. Clyde Baker, eight grandchildren are left to mourn one who will be sadly missed, as she was the sunshine of life to all of those she ministered with reciprocated delight, and the influence of that holy tenderness will be to all life long treasure.
