Rogers was born in Three Oaks Tounship[sic] May 6th, 1882, where he has spent the greater part of his life. On December 25, 1912 he was married to Mary P. Jenkins of this place and to them came little Alice, her Daddy's Chum, September 27, 1915. They made their home on the farm just three miles south east of Three Oaks, were[sic] "Billy" passed away July 28, 1919, after months of suffering. It is hard to find words that speak truly of "Billy". His cheerfulness filled such a big place in the hearts of those who knew him that they alone will realize how he will be missed. No task however great was ever too big for Billy. His whole self was thrown into his work so deeply that other things were forgotten until that task was complete. There was never clouds where he was for his life was full of sunshine, and his smiling face and humerous[sic] remarks always drove dull care away. No one can realize how much he suffered, and yet he never[sic] complained even when it seemed almost impossible for him to endure the pain. There was nothing which seemed to grieve him so much as when he grew so weary that he could not have his friends call. On can almost see his life portrayed in these lines: "Let me live in a house by the side of the road, Where the race of Men go by. The men who are good and the men who are bad, As good and as bad as I. I would not sit on the scorner's seat, or hurl the cynic's ban. Let me live in a house by the side of the road And be a friend to Man." Those who are left to mourn his loss are Mary, his wife, and little daughter, Alice, his mother and father Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Rogers of this place, three brothers, Clifford, Howard and Jessie, and two sisters Mrs. William Kefer and Millie all of Three Oaks, besides hosts of other friends and relatives. The funeral was held at his late home Wednesday afternoon, Rev. Floyd R. Maynard of Vicksburg officiating. The rich and beautiful floral tributes testified of the universal love and esteem in which he was held. Brothers of the Three Oaks M.W.A. Lodge tenderly bore the body to its resting place in Galien Cemetery.
