Jan. 1, 1904 The Acorn (Three Oaks, Mich.) Jan. 1, 1904, page 3, col. 2-3, microfilm Niles District Library Hiram Eugene Russ, an esteemed citizen and prosperous farmer living southeast of Three Oaks, died Tuesday morning, Dec. 28, of heart disease, after an illness of only ten days, at the age of seventy years, one month and one day. Mr. Russ was born in New York state Nov. 28, 1833. At the age of four years he came to Michigan with his parents, who settled on a farm in the locality known as the Paddock settlement east of Spring Creek. Later they moved to Buchanan. When still quite young he married Miss Helen Valentine. His second marriage was to Miss Ellen Kinne. Twenty four years ago Mr. and Mrs. Russ moved onto the farm where Mr. Russ died. The deceased is survived by a widow, four sons and one daughter; William, of Iowa; Chas E., and Fred, of South Bend; Edward, of Coloma and Mrs. Frances Wolverton, of Dayton, Ohio. The funeral service was held at Galien Center yesterday at 10:30 and interment followed at the Buchanan cemetery.
