May 10, 1877, page 3 Suicide Granville Schnorf, son of George Schnorf, who lives two miles north of the City, committed suicide on Friday morning last. Young Schnorf had been unwell for several days, but the family had no thought of any mental derangement or melancholy. His father heard the discharge of his gun in the son’s room early in the morning, and thought the young man had shot through the window at a bird or something in the field. Shortly afterwards he called Granville, but getting no answer, entered his room and found him dead on the floor. He had killed himself with a shot gun. He had tied one end of a string to the ramrod and the other to the trigger and in this way he discharged the gun. The full load of shot struck him in the forehead, completely tearing off the top of his head. Young Schnorf was about 22 years of age. Since writing the above, we hear that the probable cause of this suicide was a growing fear on the part of young Schnorf that he was to die of some disease that would last long and give him unusual pain.
