Schutze / 1925-2008 Monday, August 25, 2008 11:19 AM EDT Evelyn R. Schutze, 83, of Pucker Street, Niles, died at 10:34 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, at West Woods of Niles, Niles, following a brief illness.Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with the Rev. Christopher Kruchkow of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Mission Hills Memorial Gardens, Niles. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. She was born on May 22, 1925, in New Troy, to Julius Peters and Ottilie Schlacht. She was a lifetime area resident. In 1986, she retired after more than 20 years as a Registered Nurse in the operating room at Pawating Hospital, now Lakeland Community Hospital in Niles. She served during World War II as nurse cadet in U.S. Army Nurse Corp. She was a graduate of Mercy School of Nursing, Benton Harbor. Her green thumb was evident with her beautiful gardens. She was a supporter of Fernwood Botanic Gardens. She was also a member of Friends of New Troy. She enjoyed swimming at the YMCA and was a member of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church. On Dec. 20, 1947, in Glendora, she married Donald R. Schutze, who died Feb. 27, 1982. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Angel Schutze, who died in 2005 and several brothers and sisters. Surviving family includes a daughter, Caren Colleen (David) Rossow of Niles; a son, Dale R. (Susan) Schutze of Florida; grandchildren, Valerie L (Adam) Carr of Niles, Amber and Adam Schutze of Florida and Andrew Rossow of Niles; and two brothers, the Rev. Frederick (Vangle) Peters of Engadine and Adolph (Mickey) Peters of Mesa, Ariz. Memorials may be made to Morris Chapel United Methodist Church, Fernwood, or Lakeland Community Hospital, Niles.
